Richard Watson is the Department Chair and a Professor at LSUS in the Department of Computer Science. He received all three of his degrees in Computer Science at The University of Texas at El Paso (Ph.D. 1999, M.S. 1994, B.S. 1990). Upon graduating with his Ph.D., he joined the faculty in the Department of Computer Science at Texas Tech University. He was at Texas Tech for 21 years before coming to LSUS. As a graduate student he worked at Johnson Space Center as a Visiting Engineer for United Space Alliance. His work on a decision support system for an engine system of the space shuttle, which was part of his dissertation, is considered the first application of Answer Set Programming to a significant sized real-world problem.
