Student Worker Opportunities

Graduate Assistants

Graduate Assistants in Academic Success serve in a dual role as both Academic Coaches and Writing Consultants.

As Academic Coaches, graduate assistants work one-on-one with students to strengthen academic skills such as time management, test preparation, study strategies, note-taking, organization, motivation, and goal setting.
As Writing Consultants, graduate assistants support students at different stages of the writing process, including understanding assignments, brainstorming ideas, organizing drafts, developing arguments, revising for clarity, and strengthening academic writing skills.

This role is a good fit for graduate students who enjoy mentoring, listening actively, providing individualized support, and helping students grow as learners and writers.

Supplemental Instruction Leaders

SI Leaders support historically challenging courses by attending class, planning study sessions, and leading collaborative review sessions outside of class. SI Leaders help students review course content while also modeling effective study strategies.

This role is a good fit for undergraduate students who have succeeded in a specific course, enjoying working with groups, and want to help classmates learn in an active and supportive environment.

Learning Assistants

Learning Assistants provide embedded academic support in selected courses and also serve as Undergraduate Writing Consultants.

As Learning Assistants, students may support in-class activities, assist with peer learning, help students engage with course materials, and connect students with Academic Success resources.

As Undergraduate Writing Consultants, they work with students on writing assignments, helping with brainstorming, organization, development, revision, clarity, and confidence throughout the writing process.

This role is good fit for undergraduate students who have succeeded in the supported courses, and who enjoy writing, collaborating with faculty, supporting classmates, and helping students develop stronger academic skills in and beyond classroom.

Peer Tutors

Peer Tutors provide course-based support to LSUS students through Knack, LSUS’s peer tutoring platform. Tutors help students better understand course concepts, prepare for exams, and build stronger learning strategies.
This role is a good fit for students who have performed well in specific courses and want flexible tutoring opportunities.
