Alexander Mikaberidze PhD

Biography

Alexander Mikaberidze is the Boyd Professor of History and the Ruth Herring Noel Endowed Chair at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Before pursuing an academic career, Dr. Mikaberidze worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. He subsequently taught European and Middle Eastern history at various U.S. universities, including Mississippi State University, before joining LSUS in 2007.

A prolific author and editor, Dr. Mikaberidze has published over forty titles on the European and Middle Eastern history. His major works include The Louisiana Purchase: The Grand Bargain and the Making of America (Oxford University Press, 2026), The Cambridge History of the Napoleonic Wars (Cambridge University Press, 2023), Kutuzov: A Life in War and Peace (Oxford University Press, 2022), and The Napoleonic Wars: A Global History (Oxford University Press, 2020). His books have been translated into half a dozen languages and received numerous distinctions, including the Gilder Lehrman Military History Prize, two Distinguished Book Awards from the Society for Military History, and two literary prizes from the International Napoleonic Society.

In 2025, Dr. Mikaberidze became the first faculty member in LSU Shreveport's history to attain the rank of Boyd Professor, the highest and most prestigious academic rank in the LSU System. He has also been recognized for his commitment to teaching and has been regularly voted "Professor of the Year" by the Student Government Association.
