Students enrolled in distance education courses at Louisiana State University in Shreveport under the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement must follow the complaint resolution process outlined below.
Step 1: Institutional Resolution
Students are expected to first attempt to resolve concerns informally by contacting the appropriate instructor, department, or university office. Many issues can be resolved quickly through direct communication.
Step 2: Formal Complaint with the University
If the matter is not resolved informally, students may file a formal complaint through the University’s established grievance procedures. All institutional processes must be completed before pursuing external review.
Step 3: State-Level Review (SARA)
If a complaint remains unresolved after exhausting institutional procedures, students may submit a complaint to the Louisiana Board of Regents, the designated SARA portal entity for the State of Louisiana. The Board of Regents will review the complaint in accordance with SARA policies and coordinate with the institution toward resolution.
Scope of SARA Complaints
SARA complaint procedures apply to issues related to consumer protection, including but not limited to:
- Accuracy of program information
- Tuition, fees, and financial obligations
- Misrepresentation of accreditation or licensure
- Transferability of academic credit
Exclusions
The SARA complaint process does not apply to:
- Grade appeals
- Academic judgments
- Student conduct or disciplinary matters
These issues must be addressed through the University's internal policies and procedures.
Additional Option
Students may also file a complaint with the University's accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, for concerns related to institutional compliance.
