Biography

I teach and serve as an Associate Professor for the Masters of Public Health Program in the LSUS-LSUHSC system. My work over the last several years predominantly has been with refugees and immigrants from several countries, studying migration and integration of local culture and the related and resulting health risks experienced by these groups of people, particularly in youth. I've spent several years working alongside refugee and immigrant communities with students so that we all learn from one another.

Research Interests

I collaborate with several faculty in global health initiatives. One of my larger global projects involved collecting public health and child development data with Kenyatta University in large informal living communities (slum areas) outside of Nairobi, Kenya, as a Co-PI for a National Science Foundation training grant.

While on faculty at the University of Tennessee, Department of Public Health, I was the Director of Refugee Research at the Center for the Study of Youth and Political Conflict. I worked predominantly with Burundian refugees in a large multidisciplinary community project while traveling extensively to refugee resettlement sites worldwide.
Currently, at LSUS, I am continuing my work on migration and refugee studies. I consult with multiple groups regarding research design and the evaluation of programs.
